Because Freedom Shouldn’t Have a Price Tag
Immigration detention isn’t a mistake in the system—it is the system. It’s designed to separate families, extract money from crisis, and make people disappear behind concrete and bureaucracy. And in Michigan, when ICE sets a bond that no working family can afford, the message is clear: “Stay locked up unless you can pay for your own freedom.”
We refuse to accept that.
The Kent I‑Bond Fund is Michigan’s only community‑powered response to this injustice. We raise money to get our neighbors out of detention—not because the system is fair, but because it isn’t. Every bond we post is an act of resistance against a machine that treats migration like a crime and human beings like case numbers.
When we free someone, we’re doing more than reuniting a family. We’re interrupting a system built on fear. We’re saying that no one in our community should be caged because of a border they crossed or a paycheck they don’t have. We’re proving that solidarity is stronger than surveillance, and that collective care is a force the state can’t budget for.
This is abolition in practice.
This is community defense.
This is how we keep each other free.
